POSTER - BARACK OBAMA 'HOPE' POSTER (2008)

                     Have you ever seen a poster that has Barrack Obama’s face on it? We surely see it not often as much as people in Europe. Anyways, the writing on the poster is Hope. It is designed by American artist, Shepard Fairey. Fairey is known as a street artist and graphic designer. The poster has been drawn in 2008 and the main purpose of this poster is to represent Obama’s 2008 presidential campaign. The word ‘hope’ made the designer and the presidential candidate have connections and generate the meaning of it. Fairey said that Obama gave them hope. The meaning is generated as a parallel process and it does not refer to a static object but as a node in a dynamic. They generate the meaning by connecting the segmentation together and the meaning behind of the poster can be shifted from time to time. In the year that this poster has been made, the poster marked people’s expectations of Obama that gave them hope. As of now, a poster is a place for whoever is unsatisfied with Obama’s presidential works, they took the poster as sarcasm. However, the ‘Hope’ poster was replaced and it made the meaning of it has changed and it is actually based on the old one. Since that, the old poster becomes an idea to help people express ideas on a new one. What matters the most to me is the word on the poster itself. It can bring 1001 different meanings. It depends on the readers how to mark it whether in a good or bad meaning. For me, the shorter the title is, the more people are interested to know it. The colors used to paint the poster also plays a big role to attract people’s attention to understand the meaning behind it. If the poster is about the prime minister, the prime minister has to do something to reach people’s expectations cause sometimes the poster is actually something that we hoped for. It is important for us to take good care if there’s something like a poster or even a song because the meaning behind it is everything. In this case, the poster Hope has been made cause the designer hoped for the good when Barrack Obama was appointed as president. Take a look at this poster once if you have not done it yet.
